My Story:

I am diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. It is a nasty form of arthritis that is causing my si joints and spine to fuse. This disease also brings severe muscle spasm, inflammation of any and all joints in the body, really messed up sleep patterns, and this effects nerves at times. In researching this disease I came across the Spondylitis Association of America website at  www.spondylitis.org  . I joined the message boards and was encouraged by a couple of the ladies there to start an online prayer chain and Bible study. Thus, this website was created.

I soon found that my disease was in an active stage that made working a traditional job unrealistic and I quit working. I became a stay at home dad. OH! the hit to the pride! I battled a bit of depression for awhile as I adjusted to my new way of life.

The Lord, in His grace and mercy, brought me out of my funk by showing me I could be useful. I got active in helping in my home church. Another man from my church went with me to Mississippi following Katrina where we delivered supplies and helped rebuild a crushed roof and repaired another that was slightly damaged. It was clear that God answered my prayer that since He gave me the desire to help that He would fill me with His strength and endurance.

My wife and I had been praying about a full time ministry that we could get involved with. One day a friend, and fellow brother in Christ, asked me about starting a non-profit to help disabled people get out in God’s creation to enjoy camping, fishing, and hunting. Since that had been an idea rolling around in my head I took that as a sign and we started working on Camp Enabled By Christ.

I myself, am blessed to not be at stage where a wheel chair or other device is necessary but I don’t get around as well as I’d like at times. However, I find great peace and rejuvenation when I am out in the woods. It is my belief that many people would benefit from opportunities to enjoy God’s creation up close and personal.

Through these trials I have learned that God is my rock and my strength and in Christ I am whole. I am truly….Enabled By Christ.
